NC Strawberries!

School Cafeterias Feature NC Grown Strawberries

Dare County Schools students are enjoying fresh North Carolina strawberries during the months of May and June 2016. School Nutrition selected the strawberries as the featured fruit. The strawberries are delivered by Greenville Produce and are grown in Wilson County, North Carolina by Fresh-Pik.The strawberries are the Chandler variety and are grown in GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certified fields.  This certification means that the fields are monitored and audited to ensure food safety. Fresh fruits and vegetables served in school cafeterias in North Carolina are required to be from GAP certified growers. School Nutrition Director Carol Sykes commented that the seasonal fruit is a student favorite. Noted Sykes, "The strawberries are beautiful and delicious!"
