Cape Hatteras Band Brings Home Awards

CHSSCSCape Hatteras Marching Band in Four

The Cape Hatteras Marching Band had a very successful 2013 competitive season. The Hurricanes field show titled "The Storm" recreated a coastal storm on the field, from the light rain up through the whirling winds and thunder. Music included Riders in the Storm, Cyclone and Into the Storm.

The Marching Band grew even bigger this year, placing the Marching Hurricanes in a larger competition class size. CHSS competed in four competitions across NC and VA, including the Cavalier Classic at Princess Anne HS Virginia Beach, Virginia Music Games at Hickory HS in Chesapeake.  The Peanut Festival Battle of the Bands in Edenton NC, and the Southeast Virginia Regional at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

The Canes placed in the top 3 in every competition, with several notable performances.  Cavalier Classic - 1st Place Overall, Music, Visual, Effect and Colorguard. Virginia Music Games - 3rd Place Overall, 2nd Place Percussion. Peanut Festival - 1st Place Overall, Music, Marching, and 2nd Place Drum Major, Percussion and General Effect. Southeast Virginia Regional - 3rd Place Overall.

The Marching Band is bringing the show back to Hatteras to support their team at their last home game on Nov 8th. The Canes are not quite done with their season after that, they will begin preparing for their trip to Atlanta Ga to participate in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl Half time show.  In addition to performing on national tv during the game, the band students will also participate in a Concert and Jazz Band festival. The students will also get to tour Atlanta and see some historical sites.

The Marching Hurricanes are led by Director Sean McCroskey, Colorguard Instructor Jessica Polk, and Marching/Music instructor Alana Harper.  Student leaders include Drum Majors Savannah Brown and Ian Folb, and Senior Section Leaders Seth Gray, Abby Gray, Andrea Wilson, Andrea Hueck.

Congratulations on a great season, and good luck in Georgia!
