Cape Hatteras Secondary, Manteo Middle and High Band Students
Perform at Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

Seventy-seven students from Cape Hatteras Secondary School, Manteo High School, and Manteo Middle School took a four day trip to Atlanta, GA, to participate in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl game and surrounding activities.  The students had a very successful trip that culminated in two performances at the New Years Eve bowl game. Students took the field to perform a pre-game show and National Anthem. They also participated in a mass band performance during the bowl game that included a pregame show, National Anthem, and a halftime show following the Texas A&M Marching Band, to perform another selection.

The bands of Cape Hatteras and Manteo also participated in a few competitive festivals while in Georgia.  The Cape Hatteras High School Concert Band and the Jazz Band performed for collegiate level adjudicators in the festival.  Both groups earned a silver rating and took 1st place respectively in the small schools division at the awards ceremony dinner the evening before the Bowl Game.  The Manteo Concert Band took 2nd and with a Bronze rating.  The Manteo Drumline had a silver rating.

The Manteo High School band combined with Hatteras to march in the Chick-fil-A Parade the day of the bowl game.  The combined band weaved their way through downtown Atlanta towards the Georgia Dome, and earned a Silver rating from the judges.

"The students made Dare County proud!" said McCroskey, "We thank everyone for their support in our fundraising, and to help give these students this experience.  Not many people get to stand on an NFL field and perform, it is a memory I am sure these students will never forget!"

Students had a chance to sight-see, and participated in several fun activities including a visit to the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coke. Students also had a (rockin') dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown GA.

In 2010-2011, First Flight High School's band traveled to New Orleans to participate the Sugar Bowl; where they chose two public performances at Jackson Square and the Riverfront over competing.

Both Manteo Middle and High School, and Cape Hatteras Secondary School of Coastal Studies want to thank those businesses and people that helped support the students in making this trip possible. They've been actively engaged in fundraising activities for this opportunity for over a year.
